Project brief as given

The use of numbers in our everyday life is very much taken for granted. But a particular number can be very well known by its association with a particular person, address, song or film etc. You will be given a number. Think carefully about your given number and its famous associations, then research it thoroughly.

From this information, you are asked to design and produce, in 3-dimensions, your given number to communicate its famous association.

Description of solution

I picked out of a hat the number 5. From this, I chose to illustrate the five olympic rings, modelling an olympian athlete holding up the torch forming together a shape resembling '5'.

I produced the model in clay, carefully researching and reproducing in 3D the muscular anatomy of the human body. I painted the baked clay in a deep glossy tint, and highlighted the illustration with 5 rings painted and positioned to symbolise the olympic theme.
